Chinle Planting Hope is so grateful for our new R.E.A.D. in Beauty Bookmobile that expands the reading and learning opportunities for children and families in Chinle, Arizona, and surrounding communities. There is an essential Navajo concept, "Walking in Beauty," which teaches living in harmony (hózhó) with both one's self and the natural world, while making good choices and expressing love. We have adapted Walking in Beauty to the Bookmobile. Its goal, and therefore its name, is R.E.A.D. in Beauty, because it aims to help community members, in partnership with our local teachers and school district, to expand their choices and educational opportunities in a respectful, safe environment. The Bookmobile will make a variety of books and learning games available, strengthen literacy skills, and help broaden children's horizons. It will empower them to have adventures through story and it will help enable them to dream of, and to create, a better future for themselves,
their families and their Native communities.
their families and their Native communities.
In The R.E.A.D. in Beauty Bookmobile is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. @ the CPH Community Center. You can choose a fun prize from the Treasure Box each time you return books but there are never any penalties or fees for lost or unreturned books. We can't wait to see you there!
CPH also hosts quarterly literacy and STEM events every February, May, August and November that are family friendly and full of hands-on science and reading activities. We are also excited to host our 2nd annual Summer Reading Challenge beginning in June 2024. Please follow us on Facebook for updates. More details to come!
