Who We Are
The Navajo Nation
The Navajo Nation is the largest reservation by land area in the United States, situated on over twenty-seven thousand square miles of land overlapping the states of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. Over 150,000 Navajo people, known traditionally as Diné (means "The People"), live on the reservation. Another 150,000 or so live off the reservation. The Navajo Nation is home to beautiful Canyon de Chelly, where Diné hid to avoid the Long Walk in the 1860's. The Navajo Nation's culture, history and language are rich and complex and we are proud of our Navajo Code Talkers that served in WWII. Founded in 2016 Chinle Planting Hope (CPH) is a grassroots organization in Chinle, Arizona, in the heart of the Navajo Nation. CPH acquired its 501c3 nonprofit status in 2019. Chinle Planting Hope practices asset-based community development and invests in projects that build up the physical, social, educational and spiritual health of all community members. We try both to identify regional strengths and to meet community needs in ways that strengthen dignity, empowerment and cooperation. What started it all... Chinle Planting Hope ran a successful Community Volunteer Program for several years. In 2019 over 50 adults and 30 children participated and worked over 1700 hours for a variety of organizations in Chinle. In 2020-2021, Chinle Planting Hope raised Covid Relief Funds and delivered over 1200 food boxes and PPE kits to vulnerable elderly community members and quarantining families. We are currently working on a HOPE Community Thrift Store, R.E.A.D. in Beauty Bookmobile and Bicycle Repair Shop. |
