R.E.A.D. in Beauty Bookmobile
Read. Empower. Adventure. Dream.
Chinle Planting Hope is excited to launch a Bookmobile project to expand the reading and learning opportunities for both the children and the community as a whole in Chinle, Arizona. There is an essential Navajo concept, "Walking in Beauty," which teaches living in harmony (hózhó) with both one's self and the natural world, making good choices and expressing love. We have adapted Walking in Beauty to the Bookmobile. Its goal, and therefore its name, is R.E.A.D. in Beauty, because it aims to help community members, in partnership with our local teachers and school district, to have expand their choices and educational opportunities in a respectful learning environment. The Bookmobile will make a variety of books and learning games available, strengthen literacy skills, and help broaden children's horizons. It will empower them to have adventures through story and it will help enable them to dream of, and to create, a better future for themselves, their families and their Native communities.

The Bookmobile has been funded and ordered but there have been many delays because of national microchip shortages for FORD! But we continue to move forward as we're anticipating the new van and CPH is now entering into our second phase of the project...
WE INVITE YOUR SCHOOL, BUSINESS, FAITH COMMUNITY OR ANY OTHER ORGANIZATION TO BECOME A BOOKMOBILE COMMUNITY PARTNER: 1. Community Partners adopt the R.E.A.D. in Beauty Bookmobile for a calendar month and help cover the monthly operational costs (approximately $5000). 2. Community Partners can also collect new or used books for the Bookmobile (optional). 3. Community Partners will be named on the actual Bookmobile and listed on our website, social media posts etc. for the year. COMMUNITY PARTNERS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR KEEPING THE BOOKMOBILE PROJECT SUSTAINABLE. PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP TEAM! |

A RESOURCE ROOM FOR THE BOOKMOBILE!
Wheaton College began working with Chinle Planting Hope this year when its normal academic calendar was interrupted because of Covid. Wheaton's partnership has become a true blessing for CPH! They hosted 6 CPH members and our children from Chinle to visit the College in May 2021 as students converted a shipping container into a beautiful resource room for the Bookmobile. It was a life changing trip for us, and for many from Chinle, it was their first time on an airplane! These amazing Wheaton students had done work projects throughout the year to raise funds to make this happen. They turned off their cell phones for the week and learned about Dine' culture, treated us to a day of sightseeing in Chicago, fed us, loved us, prayed for us and worked so hard on the shipping container that will be sent to Chinle after completion. We are blown away by this gift. Thank you again Wheaton and its HP team for your big hearts and selfless service! |
